Before entering college, Caitlin Clark beat two state records for the 5A high school class in women’s basketball: most points in a game with 60 points and most 3-pointers made in a game with 13. Clark’s time spent dominating at Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines, Iowa, led her to become a five-star recruit, ranking second at guard by ESPN. As a member of Team USA, Clark is a two-time gold medalist after winning the 2017 U16 FIBA Americas Tournament and 2019 U19 FIBA World Cup Tournament.

Clark received numerous awards in her sophomore season, including being named Big Ten Player of the Year, Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year, and was the first two-time Dawn Staley Guard of the Year Award recipient. “Every winner has been a special player and a special person, but this year’s award is unique – in Iowa’s Caitlin Clark, we have the first ever two-time winner and Caitlin absolutely deserves it,” Dawn Staley said in a statement posted to her website. In addition, Clark was a finalist for the Naismith Award, and earned Wooden Award All-America, first-team AP All-America, and more.

Clark has received several shoutouts by popular individuals, including a shoutout from NBA superstar Kevin Durant. Durant went on his podcast in February to praise Clark’s game. "She's displaying some skill right now, and she's moving fast," Durant said. "It looks like everyone on that court is way slower than her when she's getting to her stuff." Clark said she texts Durant often about life and basketball. “He’s not only a really big fan of me, but a big fan of the women’s game, and that’s what you love to see,” Clark told the New York Times.

"But Caitlin is in a situation where she has the ball in her hands all the time. And when you have the ball in your hands all the time, you can make an impact in the game-- you can also mess it up. There's a lot of responsibility with that. She has a direct effect on the game when she's out there."

"I think whenever people hate on women, especially Caitlin, for being emotional and being into the game and doing what she does it's because they're women,” Iowa center Monika Czinano said. “And for so long women have been afraid to be out there and be vocal and passionate and full of fire. I know in our program we encourage expressing ourselves. It's worked out pretty well for us. We've got two [Big Ten] rings in eight days and we're going to keep doing it,” Czinano said after winning the 2022 Big Ten regular season and tournament titles in February and March.

Clark holds point records in three different arenas for women’s basketball; with 44 in Iowa’s Carver-Hawkeye Arena, 46 in Michigan’s Crisler Center, and 39 in Nebraska’s Pinnacle Bank Arena.
